After graduating from the University of Southampton
in 1997, I worked full time in Information
Technology until 2004. Since then I have used IT contract work to fund my extended
backpacking trips.
I started mountain walking when I was fourteen,
through my Family, The Scout Association and school trips. Since then I
have spent many years exploring the mountains of the UK including
Snowdonia, The Lake District as well as many areas of the Scottish
Highlands such as Knoydart, Fisherfield, The Cairngorms and Torridon.
In 2003 I travelled to The Cascades in the United
States, which was my first overseas backpacking trip. Since then I have
visited The American Rockies, Newfoundland, and the Picos de Europa in
Spain. I spent 2006 living in New Zealand, spending over five months on
Kiwi Tracks.
Generally 2007 was a more settled year. For ten
months I was based in Perth, Western Australia, where I was working.
Before returning to the UK for Christmas I visited Singapore, India and
then Nepal, where we trekked the Annapurna Circuit.
In 2004 through the UK Mountain Leader Scheme I
gained
the Mountain Leader Summer (ML) Award, allowing me to lead groups in the UK
Mountains.
Other Stuff...
I have many other interests including Kayaking and
Climbing (though I haven't managed to do either for a while now). I also
play Squash, Badminton and enjoy Swimming, Running and Cycling. I am
currently learning to cook.
I have been interested in photography for most of
my life, but since switching to digital photography in 2002 it has
become one of my passions. Most of my pictures are landscape of
one form or another, though increasingly I am also trying to develop
my skill in other areas as well.
My IT career is in the Systems Engineering Area,
specialising in the implementation of Microsoft and Citrix Server
solutions. I have worked with City of Melville in Perth, IBM, Canterbury District Health Board, the
UK National Health Service and Hampshire County Council. Hopefully I
will have some time in the future to create an IT Website.
