Lying off the East Coast of Canada, Newfoundland is the worlds sixteenth
Largest island, but is sparsely populated, with just under half a
million people living there. On the west coast is Gros Morne National
Park, also designated at a UNESCO World Heritage site. The geography of
the park includes Large fiord like lakes which are the most spectacular
scenery in the park. It also claims to have the best hiking trail in the
'Long Range Traverse' east of the Rocky Mountains.
Photographs from one visit.
In July 2004 we flew to Canada, to spend three weeks in Newfoundland.
Starting from St Johns we headed to Gros Morne National Park and hiked
the Long Range Mountains and then Tablelands. We finished the trip by
travelling up the Viking Trail to visit L'Anse aux Meadows, where the
Vikings discovered the American Continent centuries before the
Europeans. |
