This is the site of the famous Pancake Rocks, an area with breathtaking coastal scenery. However inland from this lies a rugged National Park, with Limestone Canyons and big rivers, all of which is backed by seldom visited peaks.

Photographs from one visit.

In February 2006 as I made my way down the West Coast of New Zealand I stopped off at Punakaiki, with its famous Pancake Rocks, and walked the Inland Pack Track, tramping through its rivers and gorges.
