The Torridon Mountains are some of the most inspiring of all the
Scottish Mountains. They rise steeply from Glen Torridon, Liathach
presents an almost unbreakable line of cliffs for its entire length. Ben
Alligan sits alone and in isolated beauty, whilst Beinn Eighe impresses
just by its sheer bulk. All three offer fantastic days out, including
difficult traverses on Am Fasarinen and easier scrambling on The Horns
of Alligan. To the south of the glen are less well known mountains, but
equally impressive to wander amongst.
Photographs from one visit.
During February 2003 I was lucky enough
to be able to spend a week in Torridon, with a spell of extremely
settled weather. I managed to climb most of the major peaks and can't
wait to return. I still rate the traverse of Liathach as one of my best
ever mountain days. |
